Friday 1 May 2026 1st May - Friction finders In our Year 3 science lesson this week, we continued our learning about forces and magnets by focusing on friction. We learned that friction is a force that slows objects down when they move across a surface, and we discussed how different surfaces create different amounts of friction. To explore this, we carried out an investigation using small toy cars, rolling them across a variety of surfaces such as grass, a metal sink, a nylon bag, a wooden table, and a plastic tray. We observed how far the cars travelled on each surface and used this to help us understand which surfaces had more or less friction. It was an interesting and hands-on lesson that helped us see how friction works in real life.

Friday 24 April 2026 24th April - Healthy bodies In our PSHE lesson this week, we learned about how to keep our bodies healthy. We discussed the importance of following good daily routines, including eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise. As part of our learning, we worked in groups on an activity where we matched different types of food to the amount of sugar they contain, and some of the results really surprised us. To help us understand this better, we used bags of sugar and weighing scales to measure out how much sugar is in certain foods. This showed us why it is so important to make healthy choices.

Friday 17 April 2026 17th April - Alien fun! In our PE lesson, we focused on orienteering and took part in a range of fun, active challenges that required teamwork and motivation. We began by splitting into teams and using a key to guide us, running as quickly as we could to collect flashcards that helped us complete it. This activity encouraged us to communicate and think carefully, while staying active. Next, we really enjoyed a creative task where we had to build aliens using different resources. We were given pictures showing what our aliens should look like, and we had to work together to recreate them, collecting only one piece of equipment at a time. This made us concentrate, plan ahead, and support each other. Overall, it was a fun and engaging lesson that helped us develop our teamwork, attention, and problem-solving skills.

Friday 20 March 2026 20th March - Moving our joints! In Year 3 science this week, we learned about how our bodies move by exploring three different types of joints: ball and socket, hinge, and gliding joints. We discovered how each joint works and where they are found in the body. To help us understand this, we carried out a fun experiment outside, where we tested which joints were used during different movements such as walking, crawling, and jumping. After observing and discussing our results, we shared our findings with the class. To finish the lesson, we had great fun doing the Macarena, using it as a creative way to identify which joints were moving during each part of the dance!

Friday 27 February 2026 27th February - Muscle memory! In our science lesson this week, we learned all about how our bodies move. We explored the important jobs of muscles, tendons, and joints, and discovered how they work together to help us move in different ways. We took part in fun exercises around the room to find out which muscles we were using, such as in our arms and legs, and we talked about how they felt when they were working, sometimes tight or strong! We also watched a video and discussed some important questions. We learned that tendons attach muscles to bones, that muscles make the leg move by tightening and pulling on the bones, and that joints allow the leg to bend so we can move easily. It was exciting to learn how our bodies work and to feel our muscles in action!

Friday 14 November 2025 14th November - Dream School vs Nightmare School In PSHE this week, we explored ideas about what our dream school would look like, thinking about the activities we would enjoy and how it would feel to learn there. We compared these ideas with all the fun and positive things we already experience at Two Waters School, recognising what makes our school special. We also imagined a “nightmare school” and discussed the things we wouldn't enjoy doing and why they would make learning difficult or unpleasant. Through these reflections, we talked about how privileged we are to have a safe, supportive, and exciting place to learn, and how much we appreciate the opportunities our school provides every day.
