Science- Investigation
Is there air in soil?

Today, Year 5 ended the week with a science experiment!
We recapped our knowledge of state of matter and look at the particles in solid, liquid and gases.
Our Hypothesis was to investigate whether there is air in soil.
We made connections with our prior learning when thinking about what soil actually is; some of us recognised that insects live in soil and that made us think that there must be some air in soil.
We planned an experiment to identify which soil sample contains the most air: loam, sand or gravel.
In teams, we worked together to carry out a fair test. We measured each soil to ensure each container held the same amount. Then we carefully and slowly added the water. We recorded our results in a table. We next completed a conclusion to discuss whether our prediction was correct.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Jones
