17th October - Mummifying A Tomato

This week in Year 4 we have been learning about the process of mummification!

As a class, we discussed why Ancient Egyptians mummified bodies and talked through the process step by step. We learnt that Ancient Egyptians used to place certain organs in four separate canopy jars.

In groups, we began the process of mummifying a tomato. Firstly, we cut open the tomato (body) and scooped out the seeds (organs!). Afterward, we rinsed the tomato, rubbed salt all over it (Natron) and then wrapped it in our version of linen!

We then wrote what happens in each part of the process in mummification and drew a picture for each step.
