13th March - Don't worry, be happy!

Year 1 have enjoyed their final week of swimming! It has been wonderful to see how much the children’s confidence and skills have grown in the water over the past weeks. From their first splashes to swimming with greater independence, they have all shown fantastic effort and enthusiasm. As swimming comes to a close for this academic year, we are very proud of the progress the children have made. Well done, Year 1!
In other PE news, we have been developing our sending and receiving skills in our rugby lessons with Mr M. The children have been getting used to handling a rugby ball and practising how to throw it with both accuracy and pace.
This week, we started a new book in Literacy called Ruby’s Worry. We talked about how everyone sometimes feels worried and what we can do to help ourselves feel better. The children made their own little booklets to give Ruby some advice about what she could do when she feels worried. They had lots of fantastic ideas about how they make themselves feel happy again.
Some of the children’s suggestions included:
  • “I can eat pizza and rest.”
  • “I can hug my teddy and play outside.”
  • “I can talk to someone and play with my friends.”
We were so impressed with the thoughtful ideas the children shared. It was a lovely discussion about looking after our feelings and helping each other. Well done Year 1!
