11th September - Marvellous maps!

We have worked incredibly hard in Geography this week as we began learning all about maps! We started by recalling our Year 1 knowledge and sharing ideas about the different maps we have used and seen before. We explored a range of maps and identified some of their important features, as well as discussing why maps are useful.

We also recapped our compass knowledge, practising the four main directions: North, East, South and West. The children then put their directional language to the test by working with a partner to guide each other around the classroom to find different coloured hoops. To finish the lesson, we became map makers and created our very own treasure maps! We used lots of positional and directional vocabulary to help identify where our hidden treasure could be found. The children have shown fantastic enthusiasm and teamwork throughout our Geography learning this week!
