10th October - Ice Hands
We have been looking at states of matter in Science and have completed an experiment to make ice hands.
As a group we filled rubber gloves with water and attempted to seal them with sticks whilst another person held the glove. The water hands ended up being closed using elastic bands and were placed in the freezer.
During the course of a day, we each observed how our ice hands melted in a tray on the table. We drew what we could see in the morning, after break and after lunch.
We had a think about what freezing is and how it happens, as well as melting and why this happens.
We looked at the different gloves on the tables and discussed whether they were all melting at the same rate or differently, and why we think this.
We understand that the change in temperature turns the liquid into a solid, and as it melts, slowly turns into a liquid again.
