Friday 8th September

A very big welcome to Year 6!

We have a had a great start to the year. We have begun our first Literacy unit of work based on “The Fate of Fausto”, by Oliver Jeffers. We read a range of fables and identified the features of a fable as well as the kind of characters you meet in them. Over the next couple of weeks we will be exploring this book further and writing our own fable to share with other classes. Here are some photos of us acting out a scene to help give us ideas for our writing:

In Maths, we have started with place value up to 1 million and have begun to consolidate our calculation methods in Fluency Focus.

Perhaps the most exciting thing this week has been meeting our Reception buddies! All the Year 6 children were caring and helpful to their buddies as they took them to lunch for the first time, showing them how to carry their trays and cut their food.

Coming up next week:

  1. Make sure you complete your homework for next Friday.
  2. Practise your spellings ready for a spelling dictation on Friday.
  3. House Captain elections will take place next Friday. We will be writing speeches for this assembly next week.

Have a great weekend!
