Welcome to Year 6! It has been a pleasure to get to know you all this week.

We have had a great start to the year. We started Literacy with sharing our experiences of the summer holidays and writing recounts about them, making sure we added lots of description to our writing.

In Maths, we have started our unit about place value up to 10 million and used concrete resources on place value grids to help us understand the values of the digits.

We have also launched our Science learning about the human body by learning about a healthy diet and James Lind’s experiment to find a cure for scurvy – which we re-enacted (see some very sick sailors except for two in the photo below!).

In history, we made a timeline to find out how the Vikings fit into British history.

We ended the week by finding out about Queen Elizabeth and writing a reflection about her life.

Finally, we met our Reception buddies, played with them and showed them how to have lunch in the dining hall, which was a lot of fun!

Coming up next week: House and Vice Captain elections. We will also begin our first key text in Literacy: Africa, Amazing Africa.

Have a good rest and a wonderful weekend.

Well done Year 6!
