11 November 2022 – Lest we forget

Our reading practice lessons have been about remembrance this week. The children have read two fantastic books – the seemingly light-hearted ‘Red Rectangles vs Green Lizards’ (but with super opportunities to talk about difference, tolerance and kindness) and the poignant ‘Where the poppies now grow’. They have enjoyed discussing these books and relating them to the purchasing of the Royal British Legion’s poppy merchandise.

Earlier this week, we were lucky enough to take part in a live zoom session with renowned author Alex T Smith (author of the fantastic ‘Claude’ series and ‘How Winston delivered Christmas’). Alex read an extract from his latest book, talked about the inspiration for his stories and led an illustration session where the children learned how to draw one of the characters from his books. Photos of the children with their drawings are below!

Looking ahead to next week, we are excited to be attending the multi-skills sports event on Tuesday morning. Please remember to send your child into school with a snack and water bottle.

Wishing you a relaxing weekend.
Kind regards,
Mrs Hunter
