10 June – Welcome to Summer 2

I hope you all had a fantastic half term and especially enjoyed the Jubilee Bank Holiday. It was lovely to welcome the children back today for their final half term in Year 2. Our new history unit is looking at ‘Communication across the Ages’ and this week the children explored the earliest writing systems from cave paintings to Egyptian hieroglyphics. They discovered hieroglyphics were more complicated than they initially thought with over 700 symbols to learn. It took scribes 12 years to be trained to use them. In literacy, we are looking at explanation texts. The children have enjoyed exploring our new book ‘Monsters – a users guide’ and have practised their reading retrieval skills and written a formal letter using conjunctions to extend their ideas. In maths, we are continuing to look at measurement including capacity and volume and mass. Our RE lessons are looking at the concept of responsibility. Below are a few pictures of the children as they analyse an Islamic quote and think about its relevance and importance to people of faith.

Homework packs were sent out today, along with new spellings for the children to learn. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if your child needs any support with their homework. I am always happy to help.

Enjoy your weekends!
