21st October – Art week

I cannot believe that we have come to the final week of our first half term!

This week the children have enjoyed art week. We have completed a series of skills throughout the week including shading with different graded pencils ranging from 2H to 6B. We have also used water colours where we learned how to load the brush correctly and we have also completed leaf rubbings using different media such as chalk, pencil and crayon. Our final piece was created using water colour and pen to finish off half of a famous painting called ‘Senecio’ by Paul Klee. The children used some of the techniques from the week to complete these. We were left with some great results, and I am very proud of the way everybody tried their best all week.

This week, the children also brought home their runner bean plants which we planted in the first week of their Science lessons in September. They were all amazed with how much they had grown. We compared the bean plants and looked at the height of them as well as how many leaves they have and discussed why these changes may have happened.

Today we finished off the week learning a dance for Diwali. We had great fun and everybody enjoyed learning something new. Well done Year 1!

It has been lovely seeing so many of you this week at Parent’s Evenings and spend some time talking to you in more depth about your children. Thank you for your continued support.

Have a wonderful half term. See you back in school on Monday 31st October.
