13th January – Welcome back!

Welcome back! We have now had a full week back of learning and the children have been enjoying their new curriculum projects and units of work.

This half term, we have switched back to Geography. Our unit is called ‘Where Do I Live?’. This week we have been looking at the seven continents and five oceans of the world and trying to identify where the UK is amongst all of this. We used atlases to help us complete labels on a world map. The children have really impressed me with their knowledge so far. I showed them two songs to help learn the continents and oceans. I hope you enjoy listening to them with your children.

In Science this half term we are looking at materials. The children enjoyed a classroom treasure hunt. They were asked to find items to go in different columns under the headings metal, plastic, paper, wood and fabric.

This week in Maths we have been looking at numbers up to 20. It is really important that the children are able to write these numbers accurately as well as identify them and be able to work out one more and one less.

In Literacy we are looking at a new book called ‘Small in the City’. The children have so far been able to compose a class poem, write a description of the snow, write some poetry off by heart and write a thought bubble about their feelings towards the book.

Today, the homework packs are available on our class page. Just a gentle reminder that homework is due in each week on a Friday. Please use glue to stick your children’s sheets into their red homework books. These will then be marked and returned to you on a Monday.

The children will have also brought home their decodable books today following some recent phonics assessments. These books are due back in each Thursday. Please can you send these books back into school in their coloured reading folders. Not only does it protect the books from spillages etc. it helps me to identify who’s book is who’s. Many thanks.

Have a lovely weekend.
