It has only been a short week due to the teacher strikes but we have packed as much in as we can.
In computing over the past five weeks we have been working on animated story books. Over these weeks we drew our own pictures, added text and background, we made the picture move and some of us even managed to add in our own voices reading the text! We had a lot of fun making these stories. We learned many new skills whilst completing these.

Yet again, we have had a busy week. We started the week in a very active way. Year 1 were invited to go to the Everyone Active Sports Centre in Hemel to take part in a multi-activity sports morning. The children were ever so excited to get on a double decker bus to be driven to the centre. Their behaviour was impeccable throughout the morning and they participated in every activity with enthusiasm and confidence. The activities ranged from cricket skills, dancing, balance bike riding, throwing and catching, dribbling footballs and even trampolining. I hope the children were not too ...
This week we have had a few busy day, but the two highlights were the trip to the church and World Book Day yesterday.
As part of our RE curriculum, we study Christianity. On Monday, we visited our local church, St. Mary’s. We were greeted by Peter Bladon who is the church warden. He showed us some important objects in the church and explained the significance of them. The children displayed excellent and respectful behaviour and really enjoyed the short trip.
Throughout the week, we have been continuing our work on ‘Here comes Mr Postmouse’. One of the activities this week ...
Welcome back to the second half of the spring term. I hope you had a restful half term.
The children have returned to school with enthusiasm this week and have enjoyed many new units and curriculum projects.
In history this week, we have been looking at how flight has changed over time. We watched a funny video looking at people’s attempts at trying to fly. This was a great starting point for discussing methods of flight. The children discussed how they thought Leonardo da Vinci’s flying machine would work, they ordered methods of flight chronologically and then made their own paper gliders ...
We have had a lovely week in the run up to half term. We have focussed on drawing skills all week and have looked at shading with different grades of pencils, hatching, cross hatching, stippling and using a grid method to draw from a photograph. We also looked at a Japanese artist called Kumi Yamashita who focusses on shadows and light sources for her art work. We used some of her ideas to create our own shadow work by drawing a silhouette of our face and using it as a template to create a shadow around it.
We finished off ...
