Happy Half-Term

What a jam-packed, fast-paced Summer Term 1 we’ve had in Year 6! The children have worked incredibly hard in all curriculum lessons and are now more than ready for their well-earned break. Despite the weather and the mud, we have been able to do PE outside and the children have been really enthusiastic to play rounders and to coach each other with batting techniques and practice. The headmaster of the Hemel Hempstead School came to visit us for a morning of Literacy, as part of our Year 6 to Year 7 transition, and was really impressed with the children’s work ethic.

In History, we have been learning about the Windrush generation, which culminated with an emotive visit from three sisters, two of whom travelled from Jamaica to England when they were young children. Year 6 listened attentively and asked many questions to expand their own knowledge. Our visitors had also donated some money to the school, some of which was used to purchase the ingredients to make a delicious Caribbean feast as part of a celebration of Caribbean culture (prepared by Mrs Bennett and Year 6).
