Super learners Year 2!

Year 2 have been working brilliantly in the last two weeks. I have been so impressed with how well they have all settled back into school life and embraced all aspects of learning with determination and resilience. It has been so lovely to see everyone back at school having fun as they learn and play with their friends. The past few weeks we have been looking at the Great Fire of London which the children have absolutely loved learning. We even got to put out our own fire using squirt guns and mini buckets just like people in the 17th century had done. We soon realised how hard it was to put the fire out without the help from firefighters so no wonder the fire lasted for 5 days and with the weather being so windy and London just coming out of a long, hot, dry summer. We have also been making one big Great Fire of London timeline which we will finish off next week and will show you all our super learning then. We have been historians by using resources, artefacts and newspaper articles to collect evidence and help with our understanding of the events that when on during The Great Fire of London.

In literacy, we have been looking at non-fiction texts and have started to draft up our own class non-fiction book about sharks which we will finish at the beginning of next week. We have learned the features of a non-fiction text and we have become information detectives by collecting and recording lots of information from the books we have read.

In mathematics, we have been looking at 3D shapes this week and their properties, sorting and grouping them under how many vertices, faces or edges they all have. 3D shapes is a hard concept to grasp and I must say the children have all tried their hardest with great determination and growth mindsets so I am very proud of all their efforts.

Super learning this week Year 2, keep up the fabulous work!

Sorting Shapes
Graffiti Mathematics – as a starter we got lots of 3D shapes and investigated the faces, vertices and edges on the 3D shape and then wrote down and discussed the properties to our partner. This was a great way to help us to understand the difference between the properties as we discussed with each other and scribbled our findings down before starting on our Power Math.
