Another week has flown by in Year 6 and your children have settled back into school beautifully after their brilliant residential trip to Norfolk – I hope you enjoyed all the Twitter updates – more photos will be posted onto the school website over the next few days.
We have started our new Literacy unit based on the mythical creatures of ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ and the children have already been producing some super writing around this. They have also been very entertaining with their frieze frames of mischievous classroom ‘Boggarts’! Lots of the children are choosing to read the ‘Spiderwick Chronicles’ books and are queuing up to be the next in line to read each one. It’s great to see such enthusiasm for reading from a range of genres and thank you for all your support at home with encouraging 20-30 minutes of reading a day: it really does make such a difference.
In Maths, we have been focussing on multiplication, including formal methods and reasoning problems and I have been impressed with the children’s attitude to challenging themselves. This has also been noticeable in improved times tables scores, which in turn should have a positive impact on the next two week’s work on division. Please come along to the curriculum workshop on Tuesday 9th October where we will go through examples of how children are being taught the formal methods of the four operations.
Have a restful weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine.
